Our December meeting was held on Wednesday, December 28, 2016. The theme was “Holiday Magic.” A group of over a dozen Milwaukee magicians met at the Tripoli Shrine Center for an evening of magic and fun. The club purchased pizza, refreshments, and desserts for everyone as we closed out the last meeting of the 2016 season.

Top flight magician Eddie Z started the evening by showing the enthusiastic group several of the magic tricks that he markets and sells to the magic community. It was a pleasure to see Eddie perform his creations and explain the creative process he uses to develop and manufacture magic tricks that appeal to both magicians and lay people alike.

Fifteen-year-old magician Benjamin Lane was up next. He performed a very entertaining card trick that used both a real deck of cards and an application he downloaded to his smartphone. The spectator freely selected a card, which was remembered and shuffled back into the deck. The deck was then put in the card box and placed on the table. Ben’s smartphone was turned to camera mode and a video was created showing the flaps open on the real card box on the table and the selected card rise from the deck! It was a real/virtual rising card! The magicians were not only impressed by the use of technology to achieve the classic card trick but also by the expert method Ben used to classic force the card.

Scott Edward Lane then took center stage and performed a mind-boggling card effect under almost impossible conditions. A card was freely thought of by one spectator and a second spectator thought of any number between one and fifty-two. A third spectator picked up a deck of cards previously shown, which remained in full view of the audience, and removed the cards from the box. All the magicians gasped as the third spectator counted the cards down to the number chosen, revealing the card merely thought of by the first spectator!

Local magician, John Lewit, stepped up to the stage and performed the “Crazy Arrow” magic trick with a Christmas theme. John coupled the classic trick with original scripting to produce a very entertaining effect that appealed to both young and old.

Rob Fischer was next. He performed a magic routine using two D’Lights as he sang the song Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. Red lights would magically appear and disappear as he sang. Everyone laughed as he finished the song by having a red clown nose magically appear on his nose.

Dr William Crowley entertained Ring members with a variation of the “B-Wave” trick. He used black and white cards to perform the miracle, which left everyone speechless.

Our final performer was Todd Krohn. He performed three perplexing tricks that absolutely floored everyone present. It just goes to show that card tricks can still fool even the most astute observers.

President Lane thanked the members for performing at the meeting. The Ring is always looking for lecturers.  Please contact President Lane if you are interested. Be sure to visit the Ring’s Web site: www.Ring41.com.

Abracadabra…until next month.
