Guest ZOOM ONLY Lecture Night
Putting The “Show” Back In “Magic Show’
In his presentation for Ring 41 on Sept. 22nd entitled “Putting the SHOW in Magic Show”, Greg Whalen, a full-time professional entertainer for over 30 years, delivers a fun and unique lecture
with no pricey gimmicks to buy and no finger-fracturing sleights to learn! Greg’s entertaining lecture is not primarily focused on learning tricks, although several fun audience-tested routines using items such as silks, money, sharpies and newspapers will be performed and taught. The focus is on learning how to write completely original patter and super-charge your stage presence no matter what kind of magic you perform! Whether you are a hobbyist or a long-time pro, the information in this highly enjoyable lecture will help you add polish, originality and theatricality to your performances!
Born in Brooklyn, Greg Whalen earned a BA in Theatre in his home state of New York, and an MFA in Acting from the University of Illinois. For the past 32 years, Greg has made his living as a Chicago-based full-time professional entertainer, performing as a stand-up comic, actor and magician. He has performed for hundreds of corporate clients and his voice-acting can be heard on the Disney Channel, History Channel, VeggieTales, TV commercials, video games and audiobooks. Mr. Whalen was also featured in the Emmy Award nominated PBS film The Artsiders.

Magic Sleight Night
Please be prepared to show, discuss and perform some of your favorite magic sleights that you use to deceive your audience.
What magic sleights do you perform on a regular basis? What unique sleights do you perform to accomplish specific deceptions? Sleight of hand refers to the manual dexterity that magicians use to deceive their audiences. Sleights are prevalent in the world of card magic, coin magic, rope magic, mentalism, money magic, table magic, levitation magic, haunted magic, bazaar magic, street magic, parlor magic and even stage magic.
Learning sleight of hand takes a lot of work and practice, but can pay off in the long run with amazing tricks. There are thousands of different moves in magic. Some are hard, some are easy, some are knuckle busting and some are self-working. Which ones do YOU use? Sleights are tools, and it’s important to have the right tool for the job. So please, bring some of your best sleights to share with the group. Let’s all take our magic to the next level by attending the December meeting to learn some new sleights for improving your magic performances.
