The Dr. Richard Mossey has a full and vibrant schedule of activities for the year. In general terms, we meet at Miss Katie’s Diner (1900 W. Clybourn, Milwaukee) for a 5:30 pm dinner and then reconvene at 7:00 pm for our regular meeting at the Tripoli Shrine Center (3000 W. Wisconsin, Milwaukee). All are welcome to attend. When outside lecturers are present, fees are $5 for members and $20 for non-members. For further information, contact Scott Lane, Vice President, at firstname.lastname@example.org.

September 26, 2018: Guest Lecturer, Jimmy C.
Jimmy C is a born entertainer, an award-winning close-up magician, and 4F executive. He is based in Rochester, New York but entertains worldwide. This is not a dealer lecture, and you will learn, learn, learn close-up magic. You’ll also laugh and experience great magical entertainment, thoughtful insights, and non-commercial, useable magic. Do check out his YouTube effects at http://www.jimmycmagic.com/
October 24, 2018: Guest Lecturer, Michael Finney
Michael Ammar says “Give Him a Deck of cards, a Pair of Scissors plus some Rope & for the Next Hour Your Audience WILL have the Time of Their Lives!” Michael Finney gets my vote for the best comedy magician around. Michael will show us how to get more funny for our money. We are especially honored to have Michael, as the I.B.M. President (2018-2019) join us. I can’t wait to see his cut and restored rope – again. Further, use this opportunity to tell Michael how he might strengthen the local Ring/National Office relationships. He wants to learn, learn, and change.
November 28, 2018: Guest Skype Lecturer, Rolando Santos
Want the inside skinny on doing magic on TV? Rolando has the insights. Rolando knows magic; he was President of I.B.M (2010-2011). He is a frequent reviewer of magic products. He is a trustee of the I.B.M. Endowment and Development Board. He also knows television. He established CNN in Chile and recently retired from that worldwide TV organization. Among other things, Rolando requests that four Ring 41 members each present two minutes of magic that they would do on TV and he will critique each one. What a unique experience for us. Ready to volunteer?
December – No Meeting
The holidays are such a busy time with family celebrations, parties, and gigs. Rather than squeeze another one in, we prefer you enjoy the holiday season with your already-too-full schedule. We’ll resume again in January and start the New Year right!
January 30, 2019: New Tricks For The New Year
No lectures this month or next. Lecturers are reluctant to travel to Wisconsin in the Winter months, so we use the time for you to perform for us. Plan to show us something new you want to add to your repertoire this year. Did you get a holiday present that you want to “break in?” It’s “Open Mic” night, so show us what is on the top of your mind.
February 27, 2019: Daryl’s Deceptions
Each season, we like to feature the magic of one well-known magician. Last year we celebrated the magic of Eugene Burger. This year we will celebrate the magic of Daryl and Ricky Jay. There is so much magic out there: cards, coins, ropes, silks, and the list goes on. If you’re not doing any Daryl or Ricky Jay magic, now is the time to add an effect. Let’s see one or two of your favorite Daryl pieces of magic.
March 27, 2019: Guest Lecture, Oscar Munoz
An I.B.M. Gold Cup Champion, a 4F doctoral holder, a Magic Castle regular, Oscar brings his impeccable credentials and experience to Ring 41 to present his lecture on Family Magic. Good, clean, wholesome, family entertainment. Oscar was I.B.M. president in 2016-2017. Among other things, he’ll give you a whole new way of thinking about donuts – I guarantee it.
April 28, 2019: Dr. Richard Mossey Annual Auction
The tradition continues. Fire Ridge Golf Club, Grafton. Entrance fee of $5 includes paddles. Seller check-in at 11:00 am; auction begins at noon. Food and Beverages are available. Cash or check only. This is a major Dr. Richard Mossey Honor Ring 41 fundraiser. You don’t have to be a member of Ring 41 to be involved. This event draws people from multiple states. Last year was a record-setting event for attendance and sales.
May 29, 2019: The Annual Close-Up Contest
We’ve scheduled this towards the end of the season, so you’ll have plenty of time to get ready for it. It’s close-up contest time. Put together an eight to ten-minute close-up act. You’ll be judged on appearance, presentation, originality, audience reaction, and technique/skill. Complete contest rules are on our website. Will you get the top prize? Monty Witt did last year and went on to compete in the I.B.M. 2018 Convention competition.
June 26, 2019: Guest Lecture, Monty Witt
So much of what we do in magic involves misdirection, a multidimensional principle not-well-understood. Monty will share the types, timing, and techniques involved in mastering misdirection. You will learn (1) When to use misdirection, (2) Why misdirection works, (3) About all the different types of misdirection, (4) How to use misdirection for stage performances, and (5) How to use misdirection for close-up performances.
Ring 41 meetings begin at 7:00 pm at the Tripoli Shrine Temple, 3000 W. Wisconsin Avenue, Milwaukee. Meetings are usually held on the last Wednesday of the month, although note that there is no meeting in December and the April Auction is held on different a different date. By tradition, many Ring members gather at Miss Katie’s Diner, 1900 W. Clybourn, for a 5:30 pm meal preceding the meeting. Visitors are always welcome. Ring members pay a $5 fee for guest lectures (Jimmy C, Michael Finney, Rolando Santos, and Oscar Munoz); non-members pay $20 for those guest lectures. No fees are required to attend the other meetings.
